What is mastering?
It has been said that mastering is listening without prejudice and making final critical judgements and changes to the sonic performance of your mixes.

So what does this mean in simple terms? Making the audio sound great in every car, radio, household stereo and portable music player on the planet!

A balance between dynamics, bandwidth and EQ is made during mastering. This is to allows for the best possible and the most accurate translation of your mix - this should be done in an accurate room. Studio Riverview Lodge's mix/mastering room offers great translation with mid and nearfield monitoring.

The Process
1. Your stereo mix is separated into mid and side components (MS) and inserted into our analogue audio chain via ultra smooth RME D/A converters.

3. Your mid and side component mix is balanced and leveled for better stereo imaging being EQed, compressed, notched and limited where needed.

3. Vintage Neve EQ adds greater bandwidth, silky high end 'air' and sonic warmth to your mix.

4. Valve side chain analogue compression adds fatness and detail to the sound. De-essing also takes place in the analogue domain.

5. Next the audio meets Apogee's 'Soft Limit' mastering converter and translates your mix into a high resolution CD leveled master. Your master will now have a high output without any digital clipping. Ultra low jitter clock plus Apogee's classic 'soft limit' finish your mix with style, width and sparkle.

6. Your audio masters are edited, faded and compiled for the 1 x speed CD master burn.

7. Your CD master is error check and sealed ready for manufacture.
